James F. Cornish, age 83, formerly of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2018, at his winter home in Port St. John, FL.
He was born December 10, 1934, in Rome a son of the late Willis and Eunice Reader Cornish. He was married to the former Dawn Duffy. James was an electrician and worked for many years for the CNYDSO in Rome, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He was a member of the Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club.
James enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved his many years of spending winters in Florida and summers at his camp in Hammond, New York.
James is survived by his loving wife, Dawn; a step daughter and son in law, Dawn and John Bereza of Rome; a step son Scott Skinner of Rome; a daughter in law, MaryLou Cornish of Boonville; two brothers and a sister in law, Robert Cornish of Oneida, and John and Nancy Cornish; a grandson and his spouse, Devan and Whitney Cornish; former daughter in law, Jo Lynn Cornish; several step grandchildren; 3 nephews; and 2 grand nieces and a grand nephew. He was predeceased by a son, Mitchell C. Cornish and a step son, Michael Skinner, Jr.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn, will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at St Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Peter's Church, Friday from 9 to 10 AM, prior to the Funeral Mass.
