Henry E. Buczek, age 95, of Rome, passed away peacefully, on November 3, 2011.
He was born September 18, 1916, in Rome, a son of Eugene and Mary Bogusz Buczek, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. Henry was united in marriage to the former Helen Szpunar, on May 3, 1947, in Holy Trinity Church. He was the co-owner of Hank's Gulf Service and Revere Liquors in Rome. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WW II.
Henry's life revolved around his family. He loved his wife and children and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandson. He also enjoyed and appreciated the many friends he made over the years of operating the service station and liquor store.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Helen; a daughter and son in law, Marian and Peter Lovier of Fairport; a son and daughter in law, Richard and Christine Buczek of Rome; a sister, Alice Waskiewicz of Utica; two sisters in law, Mildred Buczek of Rome, and Aiko Buczek of Hawaii; grandchildren, Amy (Joseph) Joseph of Fairport, Timothy Lovier of California, Jeffrey (Ryah) Lovier of Rochester, and Dr. Christopher Buczek of Methune, MA; a great grandson, James K. Joseph; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Ted Buczek.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Patrick, Dr. Cherney of HOA of CNY, the Oncology and ICU doctors and staff at Crouse Hospital, Dr. Schicker and staff, Rome Memorial Hospital Rehab staff, 2 East nurses and Visiting Nurses Association for all the care and compassion shown to Henry.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, and at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday, 3 to 7 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund, South Rome Seniors, Rome Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Maryknoll Fathers.
