Helen A. Ankin, age 85, of Madison Street, passed away March 17, 2009.



She was born February 11, 1924, in Clinton, a daughter of Joseph P. and Anna A. Kisiel Lunkwicz, and educated in Clinton schools. Helen was united in marriage to Albert J. Ankin, on June 22, 1946, in St. Mary's Church, Clinton; he died on May 19, 1982. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and President of the St. Peter's Church Altar-Rosary Society since 1988. She also was a member of the Rome Moose since 1962, and President of Women of the Moose and former chairwoman of Roman Heartline, which sent cookies and other supplies to the soldiers in Vietnam; and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion and VFW Post 9591, Clinton.



Helen loved her family and her friends and always enjoyed the many hours she spent with them. Helen also leaves a special thank you to her very good friend, Rita Barry, for all the years of fun playing cards together.



Helen is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Cheryl and Dennis Haun of Papillion, NE, and Nancy Kozick and Ray Amo of Blossvale; two sons, and a daughter in law, Albert W. Ankin of Rome, and William and Robin Ankin of Rome; grandchildren, Christopher Bowen, Brian Haun, Jeremy Ankin, Shannon Szolek, Gary Ankin, Jr, Kevin Ankin, Allison Kozick and Dominick Ankin; great grandchildren, Connor Szolek, Reagen Szolek, Jeremy Ankin, Jr, and Kennedy Bowen. She was predeceased by a son, Gary Ankin in 2001.



Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:15 PM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 2:00 PM, at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday 4 to 8 PM.



Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Church Altar-Rosary Society.
