Helen Jane Berndt



Helen Jane Berndt, age 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully, April 7, 2013, at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility, with her loving family at her side.



She was born February 18, 1925, in Buckhannon, W. Virginia, a daughter of Jesse Guy and Helen Wells Riggleman, and was educated in Rome schools. Jane was married Donald F. Martin, Sr. She later married Harold F. Berndt in December of 1965; he died in June of 1989.



Jane was a loving mother who shared her love and care with many children and people throughout her life. She had a tremendous sense of humor and loved to make people laugh as much as she liked to laugh. She will be dearly missed!



Jane is survived by daughters, Donna Martin, Yvonne Martin, Gayle and Greg Collins, Joanne and Mike Cathcart, and Christine and Gary Schmelzle; a son in law, Gary Rasha; two sisters, Nancy and Bruce Matteson and Norma and Ron Wuethrich; a sister in law, Betty Riggleman; and 13 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Rasha, and sisters and brothers, Glendeen Converse, Robert, Radford, Joseph, Eugene, John and David Riggleman.



Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:45 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 7PM.
