Helen A. Klara, age 93, of Rome, passed away peacefully, March 22, 2010, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare.
She was born December 13, 1916, in Rome, a daughter of Vincent and Stella Martowicz Hull, and attended Rome schools. Helen was united in marriage to John S. Klara, on September 26, 1936, at the Church of the Transfiguration; he died February 27, 1993. She was employed at the Rome Developmental Center, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, and the Altar Rosary Society, South Rome Seniors, 25 Year Retiree Club of the Rome Developmental Center and was the first President of the Mother's Club of Transfiguration School.
Helen's family cherished the holidays and everyone enjoyed her Polish delicacies; pierogi, golombki, and Babka.
Helen is survived by a daughter and son in law, Barbara J. and Mark W. Montoney of Cicero, NY; a son and daughter in law, John D. and Michele S. Klara of Townsend, MT; a sister and brother in law, Lucille and Charles Bridgman of Dayton, OH; a brother, John V. Hull of Rome; grandchildren and spouses, Christine and Robert Brayman of Wilmington, NC, Dr. Michelle and Dennis Herron of Pittsford, NY, Lisa and Patrick Calhoun of New Hartford, and Matthew S. Klara of Portland, OR; great grandchildren, Amanda, Grace and Nicholas Herron, Christian Brayman, and Shane, Riley and Collin Calhoun. She was predeceased by a sister, Nellie Brooks.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10:00 AM, at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund.
