Helen J. Spiegel, age 77, of Verona, NY and formerly of Binghamton, passed away peacefully, May 15, 2012, with her loving family at her side.
She was born September 4, 1934, in Binghamton, a daughter of the late John and Julia Onufrak Gavula, and educated in Binghamton schools. Helen was united in marriage to Edward Spiegel on October 6, 1956, in the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Binghamton; he died in 1978. She was employed at the DSO in Rome, retiring in 1994.
Helen's life revolved around her family and her work. She loved spending time and entertaining her family but was sincerely dedicated to serving the disabled residents of the Rome DSO.
Helen is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Karen and George Thayer of Verona, Kathy Marvin of Utica; and a son and daughter in law, Mark and Karen Spiegel of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Dorothy Storton of Binghamton; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Betts and a brother, John Gavula.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM, at St. Mary's R. O. Cemetery, Binghamton.
