Hazel E. Gentile, 85, of Rome, passed way Tuesday, April 6, 2010, with her loving family by her side.



She was born in Norfolk, NY, on February 17, 1925, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Tephenhart Simons. Hazel attended Norfolk schools and later united in marriage with Francis Gentile, on November 26, 1946, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. She was co-owner of Erie Glass Inc., with her husband Frank, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and South Rome Seniors.



Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved shopping, cooking special dinners for her family and watching her grandchildren play sports; never missing a game.



Hazel is survived by a son and daughter in law, Frank and Holly Gentile; three daughters and sons in law, Patricia and Russell Conover, Carol Gentile-Anno, and Lori and Douglas Matt; two sisters, Helen Fitsik of Rome, and Elizabeth and Bernard Purvis of Norfolk, NY; a daughter in law, Teresa Gentile, ten grandchildren, Lisa Janczewski, Carla Capodiferro, Rachael Magnanti, Ashlee and Aimee Anno, Katie and Karlie Matt, Christopher Gentile, Cheri Corr and Lori Lawless; eight great grandchildren; brother in law and sister in law, Vincent and Marion Gentile; and a special person, Shawn Gentile. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis "Frank" Gentile in 1990, her son Michael Gentile in 2006, two sisters, Julia Mattice and Mary Fitsik, and six brothers, Steve, George, Gilbert, Joseph, Louis and John Simons.



The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU staff and the 2nd and 3rd Floor nurses at Rome Memorial Hospital, for all their care and compassion.



Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:45 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street and at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday 4 to 8 PM.
