Harriet M. Bauer, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025 in Rome, NY.
Harriet was born in Rome on July 6, 1929, to the late Earl and Margaret Murphy Moster, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. On June 28, 1952, she was united in marriage to Philip Bauer at St. Mary's Church, a blessed union of nearly 51 years until his passing on May 28, 2003. Harriet worked in food service for the Rome DDSO, retiring in 1989.
Her home was a warm gathering place where family, friends, and neighbors were always welcome. Harriet found joy in cooking and baking, always ready with a savory meal or a sweet treat. Weekends often meant dinners out and enjoying a few cocktails, especially her signature "why nots". She valued the simple pleasures in life, including a good laugh, a long Sunday drive, and a beautiful breeze back home.
Harriet is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Koons; her sons, Kristopher (Melanie) Bauer and Charles "Chuck" Bauer; her cherished grandchildren, Kelly (John Dempsey) Koons, Todd (Caitlin) Koons, Corey (Tara) Bauer, Joseph Bauer, Lauren (Sean) Bearse, and CJ (Alex) Bauer; four great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Ann Moster; extended family, Joshua Koons, Matthew Koons, and their families; and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Betty (Bob) Cook, Shirley "Bobbie" (Francis) Lappin, and Reda (Barry) Gibbs; and brother, Earl "Lefty" Moster.
In keeping with Harriet's wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Abraham House of Rome, 417 N. Washington Street, Rome, NY 13440.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, NY 13440.
