Gregory L. Procopio, age 90, formerly of Hilson Drive, passed away peacefully December 21, 2011.



He was born May 6, 1921, in Rome, a son of the late Pasquale and Raffaela Maio Procopio, and educated in Rome schools. Greg was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Delvecchio, on November 26, 1949, at the Church of St. John the Baptist. He was employed at Rome Manufacturing, retiring after 43 years of service; he also worked for over 34 years at Vernon Downs. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1939 and proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the Occupation Forces in Italy. He was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist, San Gregorio Society, the Fort Stanwix Chapter #20, DAV and Lee Post, American Legion.



Greg was a loving and caring person with a great sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed telling or listening to a good story or joke, and truly loved all the friends he made while working at Rome Manufacturing and Vernon Downs.



Greg is survived by his wife Dorothy; a daughter and son in law, Joelle and John Taylor of Rome; a son and daughter in law, Gregory Jr, and Catherine Procopio of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren, John (Jake) Taylor, MD of Summerville, MA, Rachael Taylor of Burkina Faso, West Africa, and Richard and Julie Procopio of Kirkland, WA; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Jennie Migliori, Josephine Ortolano, Theresa Czyko and Marie Voci and brothers, Sam and Frank Procopio.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 30, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.



There are no calling hours.



Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Memorial Hospital Foundation or Jervis Library.
