Gloria M. Pawlak, age 83, of Rome, passed away May 22, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born May 27, 1926, in New York Mills, a daughter of Stanley and Josephine Kaczmarski Chrzan, and was educated in New York Mills schools. Gloria was united in marriage to Edmund Pawlak on June 5, 1948, at St. Mary's Church, in New York Mills, a loving marriage of 60 years; Edmund died on May 5, 2009. She was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base, and later at Rome Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1985. She was a founding member in 1958 of St. Paul's Church in Rome.
Gloria was a loving and caring person whose life revolved around her family, church, friends, and home. She will always be remembered for her loving generosity and delicious Christmas cookies. She had a tremendous spiritual devotion to St. Anthony and the Lord's angels.
Gloria is survived by a daughter and son in law, Marcia and John Newberry of Anaheim, CA; two sons and a daughter in law, Edmund S. and Denise Pawlak of Rome, and Robert Pawlak of Rome; three sisters and a brother in law, Stella Gorback of Riverside, CA, Nancy Travis of Madison, AL, and Frania and Robert Zastawny of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren, Heather, Edmund and Eric Pawlak, and Sarah and Tim Newberry; great grandchildren, Alex, Hailey and Faith; a sister in law, Josephine Pinti of Mansfield Center, CT; an aunt, Helen Chrzan and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter and son in law, Joanna and Paul Broskay; and two brothers in law, Frank Gorback and Merton Travis.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:45 AM from Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street and at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 5 to 8 PM.
