Gerald D. "Gerry" Allen, Sr., age 74, of Rome, passed away peacefully at his home on April 16, 2015.
He was born December 25, 1940, in Rome, a son of Walter M. and Dorothy Bowen Allen, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1958. Gerald was united in marriage to the former Hedi Pinto, on April 24, 1980, in Rome; she died October 31, 2004. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Gerald was a very generous person and devoted many years operating a community service program from his home assisting the needs of others. He also was a life-long guitar player and played in many local "Country" bands. His favorite pastime was watching NASCAR and Professional Wrestling.
Gerald is survived by his mother, Dorothy Allen of Rome; children; Valerie Allen and Jeff Francis of Oneida, Roxanne and Mike King of Rome, Terri and Mike Marolf of Rome, Gerald D. Jr., and Patricia Allen of Rome, Scott Allen of Rome, and Jeremy Allen of Rome; a sister, Jessie Premo of Rome; brothers, Walter Allen of New Hartford, Fred Allen and David Allen of Rome; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Allen, daughter, Michelle Allen and a brother, Donnie Allen.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Saturday 12 to 2 PM, prior to the funeral service.
