George "Pete" I. Smith, Jr., age 65, of the Town of Floyd passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2025, after a battle with several health issues.
George was born in Rome on August 29, 1959, to the late George and Marjorie Smith, and graduated from Holland Patent High School. On August 7, 1982, he was united in marriage to the former Judith “Judy” York at St. Peter's Church in Rome. He worked as a truck driver for several dairy companies including Mohawk Valley Dairy and Huff Ice Cream.
George was a Jeep enthusiast and was proud of his 1951 Willys. He also adored his feline companions.
George is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his daughters, Sarah Hooper, and Emily (Louis) DeAngelo both of Floyd; his son, George (Lisa) Smith III of Floyd; his grandchildren, Nathan, Kyleigh, Logan, George IV, and Rachel; his sisters, Joanne (Mike) Ensell, Marjorie (Tim) Johnson, and Mary Bullivant; his brother, Daniel (Sandy) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his in laws, Howard and Edie York.
George’s funeral will be held on Friday at 5 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 PM prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Floyd Fire Department.
