George R. Schneider



George R. Schneider, age 88, of Lyndale Drive, passed away June 21, 2010, at home, with his loving family at his side.



He was born September 29, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, a son of Joseph and Mary Rether Schneider, and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School. George was united in marriage to the former Naomi Hoppe in July 1955. She died August 31, 2001. He worked for over 30 years for Western Electric/New York Telephone Co., and was a proud member of the Pioneers. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and received the American Campaign Medal, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Malverne Post #044, American Legion.



George and Naomi raised their family in Lynbrook, NY. They spent summers at their camp on Canadarago Lake in Richfield Springs, and retired there in 1987.



George is survived by his children, Timothy C. Hall and Shirley Valdez-Hall of CO, George M. and Janet Schneider of SC, Margaret and Douglas J. White of Rome, Jean and Carl Coakley, Jr, of VA, and Madeline and Thomas J. Mills, Jr, of Rome; a sister, Theresa Elbert of Long Island; special grandchildren, Andrew White and wife Cara, Melissa White, Kate Coakley and Sean Mills., and out-of-state grandchildren, Damien, Tim, and Amanda; many great grandchildren and a new great grandson, Sawyer Alexander White; and many life-long friends at the "Lake". He was predeceased by his siblings, Martin, Joseph, William, Charles, Marie, Henrietta, Madeline and Catherine.



A memorial Mass will be held Friday July 16, 2010, at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church. There are no calling hours.



The family wishes to thank Melissa for her devoted care extended to her grandfather, which allowed George to stay at home; to his nurse, Terri Hepworth; the staff of the Visiting Nurses, especially, Cindy Roberts, and Dr. Brian Alessi, Pat Marrello, Shannon Carpenter and the rest of the Staff at Dr. Alessi's office.



Memorial contributions may be made to Rome Catholic School, 800 Cypress Street Rome, NY 13440.



Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
