Frances H. Petersen, age 87, of Town of Verona, passed away at her home on December 12, 2009.



She was born September 21, 1922, in Highmarket, NY, a daughter of Anthony and Rose Sazala Smykla, and educated in Turin Schools. Frances was united in marriage to Jack Petersen on October 12, 1974, in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church; he died June 10, 2000. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Altar Guild, the South Rome Senior Center and the Rome Polish Home.



Frances is survived by special niece and nephew, Nancy and Rick Pakulniewicz of Warren, Ohio, and Michael Vienneau of Lyons Falls; two step daughters and a son in law, Kathy and Larry MacAlpine of Monroe, ME, and Patricia Petersen of Brantingham; four step sons and daughters in law, Curt and Carmen Petersen of Ohio, Andy and Sarah Petersen of Syracuse, Michael and Amy Petersen of Turin and Tim Petersen of Camillus; a sister, Helen Niezabtoski of Lowville; several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews;16 grandchildren and11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Burns and Charlotte Vienneau and a brother, Joe Smykla.



The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Sherrill.



Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Tuesday 3:30 to 6:30 PM.



Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
