Frances M. Gallagher, 95, passed away peacefully, August 28, 2015, at her home of eleven years; the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, while in Hospice care.



She was born February 2, 1920, in Syracuse, a daughter of the late William V. and Mary Frances Bowen Hogan. "Fran" as her friends called her, graduated in 1936, from the old Vocational High School in Syracuse where she excelled in business and math; skills that she used in accounting positions throughout her working years. She also was on the school tennis team.



Fran was united in marriage to the late C. Charles "Chuck" Gallagher at Smyrna, Tennesee, AAF base in 1943. He later shipped out to Kunming, China where he served as Crew Chief on P-51 fighters (Flying Tigers). During the 1940's, Fran worked for GE at various Syracuse locations and in the 1950's, at GE on French Road in Utica. She later worked at and retired from Rome Cable in 1976. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Women United of Rome and did volunteer work helping youth reading and providing rides for seniors. She was an Order of the Eastern Star of Oriskany member.



Fran enjoyed league bowling with Chuck, and was on many Rome area teams. She also traveled to Europe twice, Hawaii, and especially loved to visit family and grandchildren. The Rome Senior Center was where she enjoyed her love for card games, bingo and the fellowship of the many new and old friends she met there.

Fran is survived by a son and daughter in law, Charles and Linda Gallagher of Lexington, NC; a sister, Judy Luther of Syracuse; grandchildren, Charles and Sheila Gallagher, Lauri and Tim Bauer, and Jennifer and Brandon Miller; great grandchildren, Alex and Jacob Bauer and Grace Miller. She was predeceased by three sisters, Lorretto Drake, Lucille King and Arlene Hogan and two brothers Elbert and Eugene "Bud" Hogan.



Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:45 am from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Peter's Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt, NY.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday 5 to 8 pm.



The family wishes to sincerely thank the entire staff of the Eastern star Home for their wonderful service to the care and comfort, not only to Frances, but to all the residents they so lovingly tend to.
