Elizabeth A. "Betty" Lynch

d. June 27, 2013

Elizabeth (Betty) Russell Lynch passed away at St Joseph's Hospital on June 27, 2013 at the age of 93. Betty was born in Rome, NY in 1919 and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy and the College of New Rochelle. She later attended Colgate University. She taught in the Rome School District (Staley Junior High) for many years and, as a lover of history, relished her annual trips to Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg with the Honor Society.

Betty is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, William I. Lynch, her parents, W. Francis and Margaret McKenna Russell and siblings Mary Regan, Francis Russell, Kay Meiss and John D. Russell.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her devoted children: Katherine McBride of Harrison, OH, Peter F. Lynch (Gayle) of New Canaan, CT, Mary Brand (John) of Cocoa Beach, FL, William R Lynch of Fulton, NY and Alicia Lynch of Rome, NY. She was deeply proud of her grandchildren: Peter (Kathy), Glenn and Sean (Melissa) McBride; Jason (Sarah), Jamie (Courtney) and Cory Lynch; Lauren and Olivia Tipton; and Stephen and Melanie Lynch. As a born teacher, Betty took special pleasure in her great-grandchildren Aedan and Maggie Lynch, Cassidy and Cooper McBride, Max Lynch and Riley Brand. Betty also leaves many nieces and nephews and her longtime friend, Jeanne Palmer. The family is particularly grateful to Eileen Heaney, Patricia Middlebrook and Ann Weidenfeller for their many kindnesses.

The visitation will be held at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut St. on Tuesday, July 2 from 4-7 p.m. and at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 3 from 10:30-11:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Paul's Church, 1807 Bedford St, on Wednesday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the convenience of the family. A reception will take place at St. Paul's Parish Center immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rome Chapter of the Special Olympics or to the Rome Public Library.
