Elizabeth "Betty" A. Kangas, age 77, of Belmont Street, passed away June 25, 2010, at Rome Memorial Hospital, with her loving family at her side.
She was born October 22, 1932, in Queens, a daughter of Joseph and Ada Southworth Daley, and educated in New York schools. Elizabeth was married to Oscar Carmona. She later married Roy E. Kangas; he died August 20, 1987. She was employed as a telephone operator in New York City, and after moving to Rome, worked at the Rome Auto Parts Store and Sears. She was a member of St. Paul's Church and the South Rome Seniors.
Betty was the best "Mom" in the world. She loved spending time with her family and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Betty is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Janet and Ronald Townsend of Rome, and Joanne and Bill Daley of Lee Center; a son, Roy S. Kangas of Rome; a sister and brother in law, Joan and Victor Nigro of Town of Lee; grandchildren, Eric, Crystal, Stephen, Elizabeth and Jacob; great grandchildren, Kiara and Haley; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward J., Joseph J. and Richard H. Daley, and her canine companion, Snoopy.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday 3 to 6 PM.
