Elizabeth Marie "Betsy" Thorman

Elizabeth "Betsy" Marie Thorman, age 56, of Rome, passed away October 22, 2010, at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.



She was born February 17, 1954, in Rockville Center, NY, the daughter of Eugene F. and Elizabeth Marie VonHeill Thorman. She graduated from Ithaca College and earned a Masters Degree in Education at C. W. Post of Long Island University. Betsy was united in marriage to Gary Sylvester, July 29, 1989, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an elementary school music teacher for the Rome City School District, and currently teaching at Ridge Mills School. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.



Betsy's life revolved her husband and daughter, and her love of teaching music to her students.



Betsy is survived by her husband, Gary; a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Thorman Sylvester at home; and an uncle and aunt, Walter and Audrey Thorman of Wantagh, NY. She was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Thorman, on October 19, 2010, and her father Eugene F. Thorman on July 10, 2005.



The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 502 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
