Durwood G. Lane

Durwood G. Lane, age 91, of Verona/McConnellsville, passed away peacefully November 1, 2010, with his family at his side.
He was born April 6, 1919, in Crohgan, NY, to the late George and Ellen (Ella) Steiner Lane. Durwood was united in marriage to the former Mary (Betty) Scott on April 18, 1940, in Albany, NY, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. He retired from Revere Copper and Brass in 1980, after 40 years of service. He also operated Lane's Chain Saw Service in Verona and McConnellsville, for over 58 years. Durwood proudly served in the U.S. Navy before and during WW II, he was stationed aboard the USS Selfridge, and the USS Alamance. He was a member of McConnellsville Volunteer Fire Department, the Hill and Gully Hunting Lodge in Houseville, NY, and the New London-Vienna Masonic Lodge #420, and a life member of the Camden VFW.
Durwood is survived by is wife, Mary; daughters and a son in law, Priscilla and Mark of Illinois, Lois and Roger of Marcy, and Kathleen of California; a sister and brother in law, DeEtta and Ted Jaconski of Westmoreland; brothers and a sister in law, Clifford, George and Gladys of Houseville, and Lancing and Virginia of Lowville; 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews on the East and West Coasts. He was predeceased by his son and daughter in law, Durwood Jr (Sonny) and Carol; a daughter and son in law, Nancy and Rudy; sisters and brothers in law, Shirley Lane, Madeline and Charles VanVleck, and William and Helen Scott.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 12 Noon, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in McConnellsville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday 10 AM to 12 Noon, prior to the funeral service.
