Dorothy Procopio, age 92, of Rome, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2019.
She was born March 4, 1927, in Rome, a daughter of the late Elmer and Bertha Reczko DelVecchio, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1945. Dorothy was united in marriage to Gregory L. Procopio, on November 26, 1949, in the Church of St. John the Baptist; he died on December 21, 2011. Dorothy worked most of her life in banking, as a teller and head teller at Fleet Bank, retiring after 23 years of service.
Dorothy was a remarkably talented woman whose Christmas cookies were renowned by family and friends. Her many other talents included knitting, crocheting and quilting. She was known and appreciated for the many baby blankets she knitted for family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter and son in law, Joelle and John Taylor of Clinton; a son and daughter in law, Gregory Jr, and Catherine Procopio of Durham, NC; grandchildren, John "Jake" Taylor, MD, & Christopher Madson of Cambridge, MA; Rachel Taylor, Brooklyn; Richard Procopio and Julie Procopio, Kirkland, WA, and a great grandson, Jude Taylor-Madson. She was predeceased by a sister, Betty DeNigro, and a brother, Elmer DelVecchio, Jr.
Dorothy's family thanks the compassionate and thoughtful staff at Colonial Park Rehab and Nursing Center for their care and friendship.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio, will be held at 11:00 AM, at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 10 AM.
