Obituary

Dorothy J. Bellinger, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 10, 2026, at Rome Health, after a brief illness. At the time of her passing, she had the love and support of her family at her side.

Born in Norwich, NY on October 18, 1938, Dorothy was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Reining) Grosvenor. She was raised and educated in Norwich, graduating with the Class of 1956. She then went on to attend Morrisville State College where she earned her Associate’s Degree in 1958.

Dorothy was first married to the late George H. Abbe, Jr. in 1959 and together they were blessed with four children. Their marriage would go on to last for thirty-five years, until George’s passing in 1994. Later in life, Dorothy was once again blessed to find love with the late Thomas Bellinger. They were married in 2002 and spent ten years filled with family, laughter and companionship, until Thomas’ passing in 2012.

Dorothy’s greatest love was her family. Her second being her faith in God. She enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her friends and loved ones. She was very much involved with many different areas of her church; the biggest being the kitchen crew, which she ran many dinners and functions with.

Dorothy worked as a dietician for the former Genesee Nursing Home in Utica. She was a faithful parishioner of Westmoreland United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Charles G. Abbe (Rhonda) of Houston, Texas and Robert B. Abbe of Rome; her daughters, Pamela Fleming (Duane) of Clark Mills and Kristine Ramsdale of Rome; her stepchildren, William and Cheryl Bellinger of Michigan, Mark Bellinger of California, Mary Catherine Dean of Oregon, Lisa Eaton of Oneida and B. Anne Houseman of Oriskany Falls; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brothers and sister-in-law, Lawrence Grosvenor of Boonville and Gregory and Rosalyn Gosvenor of Buffalo; her adopted son, Chonghui Liu of Solvay; special friends, Charlene Hartman, Judy Bachman, Jean Plumb; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and lifelong friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Dorothy’s funeral service, which will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 1:00PM at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church, 7286 West Main Street, Westmoreland, NY. Final burial will take place in Westmoreland Cemetery.

Dorothy’s final wishes were prearranged and entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 West Chestnut Street, Rome, NY (315) 337-0055, Nick Iselo, Marty Ciaccia and Kevin Barry, Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.barryfuneralhome.com.
