Doris E. Turk, 82, of Rome, passed away peacefully September 5, 2011, at home, with her loving family at her side.



She was born March 29, 1929, in Utica, a daughter of Sydney O. and Florence Speck Reed, and graduated from Oriskany High School in 1947. Doris was married to Charles F. Findlay; he died August 5, 1964. She later married James E. Turk on August 19, 1967. She formerly was employed at the Oriskany School District, the Contract and Sales Department at Sears and later as a personal care aide at the Easter Star Home. She was a member of St. Peter's Church.



Doris was a loving and caring person who loved to cook and entertain her family for any occasion or special event. She loved listening to music and sharing her great sense of humor with her family and friends. She also enjoyed the many friends she made over the years with the "Birthday Club" girls at Sears.



Doris is survived by her husband, James; two daughters and a son in law, Sharon and Harold Furman of Stittville, and Patricia Wilford of Charleston, W. VA; two step-daughters and a son in law, Carole and David Drake of Lee Center, and Virginia Drake of Floyd; a sister, Clara Meekins of NC; a brother and sister in law, Ernest and Donna Reed of Little Rock, AR; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a step-son, Richard Turk; and a sister, Marion Bogan.



Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, and at10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday 4 to 7 PM.



The family sincerely thanks the staff of Hospice, especially Pam, Irene and Miranda, for their care and compassion extended to Doris during her illness.
