Donald "Dewey" Mortis, Jr., age 58, of the Town of Western, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 19, 2026.

Dewey was born in Rome on February 9, 1968, to Donald Mortis and Rose (Barber) Pexton, and educated in the Rome Schools. He currently was employed by the Rome City School District for 38 years and was head custodian at John E. Joy Elementary School. Dewey enjoyed four wheeling, snowmobiling, and in the past he was into jet skiing and boating . For the past two years, cruising in his 1995 Corvette brought him such joy. He loved to listen to songs under the classic rock and heavy metal genres like the Doors and Asia. He also had a love for his cats Chester, Bado, and his newest one, Georgie. He will be missed by his family, friends, and those who had the pleasure to work with him.

Dewey is survived by his significant other, Tracey Bird-Remillard, and her son, Jack Remillard II; his brother, Lucien (Rhonda) Falitico; his step-father, Robert (Kathryn) Pexton; his uncles, Vincent, John, and Ronald Barber; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Rose; and brother, Vincent Falitico.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10 AM, at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1106, W. Liberty Street.
