Denise C. Giardino, age 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Wynn Hospital in Utica. She was a devoted wife, sister, aunt and cherished friend, whose warmth, laughter, and vibrant spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Born on February 21, 1957, Denise is the daughter of Lorraine M. (Rawson) Gillen and the late Francis D. Gillen. She graduated from Rome Catholic High School in 1975 and went on to work at several local businesses throughout the years, including Chicago Market, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Robert J. Giardino. She was also employed by Time Warner Cable and Gulla Pools.
On May 19, 1979, Denise and Bob were married, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 47 years. Their marriage was filled with unwavering love, laughter, companionship, and countless cherished memories. They were truly devoted to one another and enjoyed sharing life's adventures side by side.
Denise had a passion for fashion, shopping, beautiful jewelry, and anything with a little sparkle. Her love of style reflected her vibrant personality and joyful outlook on life. She was also an avid New York Rangers fan, and she and Bob traveled throughout the country following their favorite team and creating lasting memories together.
Music was another of Denise's great passions. She especially enjoyed attending the live performances of Chad Plantz and Michael "Wiz" Bell, faithfully supporting them for many years, even as her health declined. She and Bob also enjoyed traveling, especially their many trips to Florida, where they made treasured memories together.
Above all else, Denise loved being surrounded by the people she cared about. She was outgoing, social, and happiest when spending time with family and friends. Her kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and infectious smile will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Denise is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Robert J. "Bob" Giardino; her beloved canine, Yogi Bear; her loving mother, Lorraine M. (Rawson) Gillen; her sister and brother-in-law, Tera and Alex Cherubin of Whitesboro; her brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Mary Sue Gillen of Cortland; her in-laws, Donna and Sam Guiliano of Rome, Carol and Douglas Meiss of Rome and Bob and Cherry DiCaprio of Baldwinsville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends, with special mention of Annette (Dave) Alvarez-Jackson.
She was predeceased by her father, Francis D. Gillen and her parents-in-law, Albert and Carmel (Richards) Giardino and Josephine (DiCaprio) Giardino.
Denise's life was a beautiful reflection of love, friendship, and living each day to the fullest. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her forever.
A special thank you is extended to Denise’s healthcare team, including Dr. Christopher Fatti and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Wynn Hospital, for the compassion and care given to her throughout her struggles.
