Deborah L. Stanton

November 24, 1962 — January 18, 2025

Deborah L. Stanton, 62, passed away after a brief illness Saturday, January 18th, 2025.

She was born on November 24th, 1962, in Utica, a daughter of David and Marion Reed. Deborah was raised in Rome and attended the local schools, proceeded to MVCC in Rome, and finished with a bachelor's degree in freshwater fishery at SUNY Brockport.

Life eventually led her to a 32-year career as a corrections officer at the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as a Lieutenant in 2022. In her free time, Deb was a passionate dancer and choreographer. She loved choreographing at Rome Community Theater, volunteering for decades in the summer to help run a children’s theater program and enjoyed working as choreographer at SUNY Morrisville. Her home was always a safe space for anyone and everyone, whether they were family or friends, and she was a firm believer in family dinners and family game nights.

Deborah married Robert E. Stanton Jr. on October 22nd, 1988, in Rome. She is predeceased by her father, David Reed; and survived by her mother, Marion Reed. Deb is also survived by her husband; her daughter, Katherine M. Stanton-Pawlikowski (daughter-in-law, Allie Pawlikowski, and her two grandchildren Roosevelt and Fiona Pawlikowski); her son, Robert E. Stanton III (daughter-in-law Gabrielle R. Stanton, who was introduced by Deb at Morrisville); and daughter Melinda L. Mugford (son-in-law Coty Mugford, and granddaughter Charlotte Mugford); her six sisters, Linda (William) Grahame, Cynthia (Alex) Igou, Susan (John P.) Mercurio, Sandra (Alan) Wilson, Mary Reed (John) McCall, and Carolyn (Edmund Turnley) Reed; as well as many nieces and nephews of whom she adored.
