Retired Oneida County Deputy Sheriff, Clifford J. Baker, Sr., 58, of Holland Patent, passed away March 31, 2011 unexpectedly.



He was born March 8, 1953, in Rome, a son of Paul and Janet Marcellus Baker. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1971. Clifford was united in marriage to the former Diana Whitney in Rome, a loving marriage of 31 years. He proudly served as an Oneida County Deputy Sheriff for 26 years from, September 3, 1974 to December 27, 2000.



Clifford was the acting President at the Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club and former President for the Northern Community Pop Warner for 15 Years. Clifford enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, volunteer work, watching his children playing in various sporting activities, playing with his grandsons and spending time with friends.



Clifford is survived by his wife, Diana; three sons, Clifford J. Baker, Jr. of Rome, Michael P. Baker, and Ryan J. Baker both of Holland Patent; two daughters and sons in law, Courtney and David DesMarais of Utica, and Ashley and Cory Knapp of Chittenango; a brother and sister in law Anthony and Loretta Baker of North Bay; a sister and brother in law, Kim and James Weldon of Rome; two grandchildren, Caiden Knapp and D.J. DesMarais and looking forward to the arrival of his third grandchild; a granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; his extended families, the Bottini's and Marcellus's and his dog Max. He was predeceased by a brother Michael Baker.



Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 AM, at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street with interment in Evergreen Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.



In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a Scholarship Fund in Memory of Clifford J. Baker, Sr. at the Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club.
