Charles J. "Charlie" Withey

Charles J. Withey, age 87, of Rome, passed away peacefully June 24, 2016, at Bethany Gardens.
He was born February 11, 1929, in Rome, a son of the late Charles N. and Florence J. Jenks Withey and graduated from Rome Free Academy in1946. Charlie proudly served in the U.S. Army from Jan 1949 - Jan 1952, and is a Korean War veteran. He worked at the former Rome Trust Co. from 1952-1966. He then served as Supervisor of statistics, payroll and taxes for Mohawk Airlines from 1966-1971. In 1972, he moved to Palm Beach, Fl., and was the Budget Director at the Palm Beach Mental Health Center from 1972-1976. He became Director of finance in1976, for the Florida Community Health Center, serving seven counties surrounding Lake Okeechobee. In 1991, Charlie retired and moved back to Rome, where he continued to serve the community and his church.
Charlie is survived by many friends and his church family. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jean Waller, Shirley Withey and Lois Billman; and a brother, Ervin (Bud) Withey.
The funeral services will be Thursday at 5:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
