Carol G. Waters, age 77, of Rome, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 at Upstate University Hospital, with her loving family at her side. Carol was born in Rome on September 17, 1934 to Carlton and Eleanor Meeker Gardinier. She graduated from Rome Free Academy and attended Crouse-Irving School of Nursing.
Carol was united in marriage to Donald James Waters on October 1, 1955, in St. Peter's Church; a blessed union of 56 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and loved to cook gourmet meals for her family to enjoy.
Carol was a long time member and former president of the Rome TWIGS, as well as the Fort Stanwix Garrison. She was also a member of the Lake Delta Yacht Club, the Red Hat Society and the Griffiss Ski Club. Carol was a devoted catholic and was an active member of St. Peter's Church where she attended mass weekly.
Besides her husband, Carol is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; James C. and Nancy Waters of Coventry, R.I., Michael P. and Sheila A. Waters of Rome, Dennis C. Waters, and daughter-in-law Deon Waters; eight grandchildren; Brooke, Crystal and Summer Waters, Heather Davies and her fiance´, Steven Williams, Christopher Waters, Andrea Creighton and her husband, Aaron, Mikaila Waters, and Colin Waters and his fiance´ Molly Kerker; and two great grandchildren; Cole and Ryan Creighton. She was predeceased by a son, Patrick C. Waters, and two brothers, Allen S. and Charles D. Gardinier.
A memorial mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Monday from 4 to 7 PM.
