Obituary

Bruce W. Hawkins, age 65, of Steuben, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the Wynn Hospital with his family at his bedside.

Bruce was born in Rome, N.Y. July 24, 1960, to the late Roy Jr. and Ruth Rocker Hawkins, and he graduated from Holland Patent High School. On June 9, 1984, he was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Rutledge. Bruce proudly owned and operated the family farm alongside his brothers, Kevin and Neal. He also helped manage the Holland Patent Leasing Truck Company with his dad and brothers. Most recently, he was employed by Alnye Trucking, where he hauled milk with great skill, handling the tanker with the same care and ease as if it were a Cadillac. He also served as a board member on the Boonville Farmers Co-Op.

Bruce was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed NASCAR, basketball, and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. As a farmer, being a hard worker was a part of who he was. He made many friends throughout the farming community. His greatest joys in life were the times spent with his family whom he was very close with. They made many memories that are now part of his legacy and will live on through all that loved him.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; his daughters, Jady (Chris) McMullen, Jeredy (Alan) Hill, and Jacinth "Jackie" (Jim) Brooks; his grandchildren, Austin and Owen McMullen, Jacob, Nolan, and Avery Hill, and Calib and Chace Brooks; his sister, Lori (Issiah) Toner; his brothers, Randy (Melissa) Hawkins, Kevin (Christina) Hawkins, and Neal (Katrine) Hawkins; his brothers -in- law and sisters-in-law, Ronald (Virginia) Rutledge, Patrick (Diane Dumas) Rutledge, Marjorie (Mike) Davis, Colleen Daignault, Wanda Rutledge-Johnson; Joseph Jones, and Jeanine Rutledge; many nieces, nephews and cousins, his good friends, Rich Slaga, Mike Napierkowski; longtime friend from high school Donnie VanDreaser, along with many other cherished friends. He was predeceased by his brothers in law, Donald Rutledge, Ronald Daignault, and Robert Johnson; and sister-in-law, Mary Jones.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his brother, Neal for the care and support he provided in recent years, alongside his wife, Kathleen; though his time here has ended, the years they spent side by side built a bond that never will, and he carried that pride with him.

Bruce's funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome. Burial will be May 13, 2026, at 10 AM at Evergreen Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday, March 27, from 3 to 6 PM prior to the service.
