Our dear Beverly Anne Cupples passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 23, 1942, in Utica, to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Jones Pritchard and lived in Bridgewater until 1967 when she moved to Rome. She graduated from Bridgewater Central School in 1959 and attended and graduated from the Utica School of Commerce in 1961. Beverly spent her professional career at Griffiss AFB, Rome Air Development Center, and Rome Labs until she retired in 2006. She was proud of her job and contributions to her country.
Growing up, Beverly spent much time with her Welsh family in Remsen, celebrating holidays, playing with her cousins, attending barn dances in her uncle's barn, and playing pitch with family. She began camping in the Adirondacks as a child and continued her entire life with her children, grandchildren, and sister's family. Beverly married John H. Sargent in 1967 and had two children. John passed in 1976, and she was a single mother for 14 years. On December 1, 1990, she married Edward James "Jim" Cupples and gained a stepdaughter.
Beverly had an adventurous spirit and was always game to have fun. She enjoyed snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and country western music and shows. She also liked knitting and crafting with her Lee Center friends in the Home Bureau and Knitting Club. She was a mighty pie and bread baker and loved digging through her cookbooks for new recipes. She and Jim also enjoyed their time together and travelled all over the world including stops in Europe, Australia, and China.
She will be missed beyond measure.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her children, John T. (Judy Wilcox) Sargent II of Rome, and Colleen Sargent Williams of Stafford, NY; her stepdaughter, Audrey E. Cupples of MD; her six grandchildren, Jacob W. (Tracey Zajac) Forster, John T. Sargent III, Nicholas H. Sargent, Patrick C. Williams, Elizabeth M. Williams, and Jacob Longoria; her beloved sister and best friend, Diane Roberts; and many close nieces and nephews, and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, with a funeral service to follow at 1PM.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
