Betty Ann Munney grabbed ahold of her husband's hand and passed peacefully from this life, on Tuesday October 30, 2012.

Betty was born on May 10, 1924 in Rome, the daughter of George B. and Ann Street Smith. She is a graduate of SAA. On April 2, 1945 she married Sherman G. Munney at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rome. He passed away on October 7, 1986.

Betty was employed as a bus driver by Birnie Bus Service for 18 years, retiring in 1990. In her earlier years, she was a Dental Assistant for Dr. James B. Eames. She was the youngest past President, at her time, with the Rome American Legion Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Lee American Legion Auxiliary, Saint Joseph's Women's Club, Lee Unity Senior Citizens, South Rome Senior Citizens, honorary member of the Telephone Company Pioneers of America, and former member of the Saint Joseph's Choir and the Crescent Girls Bowling League at Mohawk Lanes.

Betty is survived by a son, David S. Munney of Stewart, FL; a daughter, Mary Munney-Griffiths and her fiance´, Chip Olejniuk of Rome; a special and cherished grand-daughter, Amanda J. Griffiths of Albany; two brothers and sisters in law, Erwin and Eleanor Smith and David and Sharon Smith all of Rome; bothers in law and sisters in law, Kenneth and Marjorie Munney of Binghamton, Jean Sutter of Montgomery, NY, Betty Church of Pemberton, NJ and Cleora Jarrett of Rome; a special family member, Donald Campbell; and many nieces, nephews and God children. She also loved her family and friends dearly.

She was predeceased by her husband and her parents, two brothers who both passed away early in their youth, George and Robert, a special family member, Sylvia Campbell, and by her precious grand-daughter, Ayla Griffiths.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:15 PM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut and 2:00 PM at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to 1 PM on Monday
