Betty J. Beckwith, age 87, of Rome, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2012 with her loving family by her side.
She was born on December 25, 1924 to Joseph and Marguerite Harris Mack. She attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1943. On October 5, 1946, she married Richard W. Beckwith at St. Mary's Church. He passed away on November 23, 1990.
Betty was a member of the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center and AARP. She was also a member at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Betty is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Garry R. and Dianne Beckwith of Rome; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy J. Beckwith and Joan M. and Frank Pape, all of Rome; four grandchildren, Jill Williams, Allison and Shannon Beckwith, and Eric Kangas; one great grandchild, Jaxson Cole Williams; a brother-in-law, Robert Fox of New Hartfod, NY; and a special friends, Beverly Johnson and Betty Doherty of Rome. She was predeceased by two sisters, June Swavely and Lorraine Fox.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 26, at 1:00 PM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
Relatives and friends may call the funeral home from 11 to 1 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
