Barbara K. Heilig, age 81, of Rome, passed away July 20, 2010.
She was born February 13, 1929, in Rochester, a daughter of Irving and Dorothy Mance Kuhn, and graduated from East Rochester High School. Barbara was united in marriage to James B. Heilig, on August 1, 1953, in East Rochester; he died December 15, 1995. She was a librarian at Westmoreland Central School, retiring many years ago. She also was very proud of her years teaching English resource courses at Westmoreland. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and the South Rome Seniors.
Barbara enjoyed many hobbies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed camping and swimming with her family. She was a great baseball fan and a "true-blue" New York Yankees supporter. Her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. She had great memories of family get-togethers, camping and traveling.
Barbara is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Terri and Bill Cawl of Rome, Joan and Richard Davis of Rome; a son, Robert Heilig of Rome; a sister, Elizabeth Hagreen of East Rochester; two brothers and sisters in law, John and Joanie Kuhn of Salt Lake city, UT, and George and Joann Kuhn of East Rochester; grandchildren and spouses, Joe and Cheyenne Cawl, Jamie and James Chase-Wegner, Michael Davis and John Cawl; two great granddaughters, Ocean Cawl and Molly Chase-Wegner; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 9:45 AM from Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday 5 to 8 PM.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staffs of Rome Memorial Hospital 2 East, and Stonehedge Nursing Home, for their care and compassion extended to Barbara during her illness.
