Alfred T. Meier, age 84, of Rome, passed away February 21, 2010, at Rome Memorial Hospital, with his loving family at his side.
He was born January 3, 1926, in Rome, the son of Albert L. and Anna Wild Meier, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1944. Alfred was united in marriage to the former Irene Roser, on September 20, 1947 in St. Mary's Church, Rome. He was former manager for ACME Markets, a sales representative for McKee Baking and later drove school bus for Birnie Bus Service during his retirement. Alfred was a U.S. Army Veteran and served with the 82nd Engineer Battalion during WW II.
Al's life revolved around his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and music and played guitar for many years in a country western band.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Irene; three daughters and sons in law, Patricia M. and Anthony Rotolo of Richmond Heights, OH, Sandra M. and Kilburn White of Ravena, NY, and Barbara M. and Paul Matwijec of Westmoreland; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Raymond A. and Kim Meier of Rome, Alfred R. Meier of Rome, and Ronald A. and Andrea Meier of Whitesboro; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:45 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and 10:30 AM, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 4 to 7 PM.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the ICU at Rome Memorial Hospital for their care, compassion and friendship during Alfred's hospitalization.
