Alberta L. Farmer

Alberta L. Farmer, 88, daughter of Albert Conrad Forster and Adelaide Frances Herbst, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2015, after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Rome, NY and belonged to St. Mary's Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, baking, card playing, and her favorite TV shows: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Alberta attended high school at S.A.A. then was married to John E. Farmer, Jr., June 11, 1949 at St. Mary's Church in Rome. She leaves behind three children, John Farmer and wife Fran, Rollinsford, NH; Steve Farmer and fiance´, Donna, Rome, NY; and Anne Farmer, Rome, NY. She also leaves her grandchildren, Nicholas and Julie Calato, Rome, NY, Lanette Gregoire, Niskayuna, NY, Kaitlin Lopez, Yorkville, NY, and Patrick Farmer, Lee Center, NY. Her six great grandchildren will also miss her very much, as will many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John E. Farmer, Jr., her son, Larry Farmer, her sister, Dorothy Whitney, and Sister (Marion) Forster.
The family is very appreciative of the attention given by all the nurses and doctors of Rome Memorial Hospital, especially the staff of 2 East and 2 North.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Rome, Jervis Public Library, St. Mary's/St. Peter's Parish Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
