Adelbert "Del" J. DeFrees, age 78, of Town of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully, November 29, 2012, with his loving family at his side.
He was born January 7, 1934, in Oneida, a son of the late Darrell and Clara Maciag DeFrees, and attended Rome schools. Del was united in marriage to the former Delores Potocki on April 12, 1958, in the Church of the Transfiguration. He was employed at Revere Copper Products, retiring in 1994, after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, a life member of the Rome Elks Lodge #96, Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club, Stanwix Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Parkhurst Post 1448, American Legion in Oriskany. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Del enjoyed many sports and was an avid golfer and bowler.
Del is survived by his wife, Dolores; sisters in law and brothers in law, Stanley and Patricia Potocki of Rome, Lsyle and Priscilla Parker of Rome, Sandra Defrees of North Carolina and Louise DeFrees of Rome; and several special nieces and nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bruce and Edmond "Ned" DeFrees.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, 2 to 6 PM.
