Maurer, age 84, of Rome, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after multiple medical struggles. Mickey was born in Rome on February 23, 1936 to the late Floyd Sr. and Henrietta Kielbasa Rocker, and graduated from Oriskany High School. She worked as a stenographer at Griffiss AFB for several years. She was also a stay at home mother and homemaker for 20+ years, and in her later working years, she cleaned for households and businesses. Mickey was an avid bird watcher and loved to feed the hummingbirds that frequently stopped by. She was an excellent candy maker and would take her delicious treats to many craft shows. Mickey also loved crocheting and playing computer/video games. She was also a runner up for a beauty contest. Mickey is survived by her two daughters, Brenda (John) Severns of West Chester, OH, and Bonnie (John) Derfuss of Clark Mills; her son, Bruce Maurer of Rome; grandchildren, Cory, Matt, Marietta (Jesse), Vanessa, and Rachael; her brother, Donald (Karyn) Rocker of Lakeland, FL, and a loving cousin, Jake Rocker of Blossvale; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Clancy, Mary Doty, and Kathleen Sancomb; and a brother, Floyd Rocker Jr. Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street on Tuesday, October 6, from 4 to 6 PM prior to the service, which will be held at 6 PM.
