Charles R. Getty, age 90, of Rome, passed away peacefully, March 6, 2011.



He was born November 1, 1920, in Butler, New Jersey, a son of Charles M. and Mary Pearl Guinter Getty. He earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University, an MBA from New York University, and was a Certified Public Accountant. Charles married the former Katharine Murray on August 12, 1943, in Butler, NJ; she died July 11, 1992. He later married Charlotte Isom, on October 23, 1993, in Rome; she died November 16, 2010. He was employed at Revere Copper and Brass Inc, from 1951-1987, retiring as Vice President and Director of Corporate Development. He was a member of St. Peter's Church. Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a B-24 pilot with the 8th Air Corps, flying 30 combat missions in the European Theatre, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.



Charles was very active in community activities and service. He was past president of the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce, Rome United Way, Utica College Foundation, Rome College Foundation and Ft. Stanwix Council, BSA. A trustee and chairman of the Rome Family Y, and board member and President of Teugega Country Club, board member and officer of Rome Memorial Hospital and Rome Memorial Hospital Foundation, and served as officer and board member for many other organizations.



Charles is survived by four daughters, Susan Getty of Framingham, MA, Karen and Heinrich von Fricken of Hamburg, Germany, Cheryl Getty and Robert Leventhal of Vienna, VA, and Deborah Getty and partner, Sue Atkins, of Louisa, VA two sons, Charles R. Jr, and Denise Davidson Getty of Rome, and Jeffrey M. and Natalie Ludin Getty of Woburn, MA; also a sister, Frances Sloan, and brother, Gerald Getty; grandchildren, Rachel Getty Samuelian and husband, Joe, Abigail Leventhal and Ethan Leventhal.



A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.



There are no calling hours.



Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
